The New York Times reports, in an article by Andrew Ross Sorkin:
The company [CNet], founded in 1992, has more than 2,600 employees. It has been particularly hard hit because of increased competition in its core market from technology-focused blogs like TechCrunch, written by a handful of people at a fraction of the cost. In September, page views at TechCrunch surpassed those at CNet’s News.com, long considered the industry stalwart. In October, TechCrunch and its sister site had eight million page views compared with News.com’s six million page views, according to comScore Media Metrix.
Did they really report that page views at TechCrunch exceeded those at CNet? With a straight face? No, seriously… TechCrunch is that POS effort by Arrington, right? Six silly valley insiders, Loic Lemeur, and a geek in Omaha read it every week? That one?

Proof that the thing about old dogs and new tricks is wrong. I’m glad that intelligent people with experience and depth are arriving on that scene. Sort of a reverse Gresham’s law: Good material drives out sucky material.
