    I just noticed how when Dave Winer is writing his recursively incomprehensible best it reads just like a ze Frank narrative. Only not quite as funny. Or as long. Or as smart, I guess. But the rhythm is right!

    I love the big lug. I read him every day. I’m a little jealous that he’s rich and I’m not, but then he has worked hard for his “Thank you money.”

    Last night I watched ze Frank, then I read Dave, and the cadences of that post I linked were really tightly bound to the audio rhythms of the vid-cast I had just watched.

    Betsy, this is “nice Frank” — I understand the jealousy bit, I used to feel that a long time ago for people who had more money than I did (not hard, I was broke then), but as you get older I realized that money wasn’t going to make the difference between enjoying life and not, nor was it going to make my life longer.

    Frank, the most friendly thing I could say to you is to be happy for *your* blessings, and don’t worry about what other people have. At best it’s just a time-sink, at worst it’s preventing you from appreciating the goodness in your own life. There’s no time to waste in doing that, it’s over before you even realize it’s started.

    That’s something Ze Frank couldn’t possibly know, btw, he’s too young.

    I don’t consider $2.15M to be “Thank You Money”.
    Dave’s a certified Web 2.0 millionaire for selling the quintessential blogging ping service to Verisign.

    The dark side of this story is the fact that Rogers Cadenhead helped port the service off a Frontier kernel instance when it started to fail under load and made it run with a LAMP stack implementation. For his troubles, Rogers did get a “Thank You” at the time.

    He later got a note from Dave’s lawyers asking for his $5,000 back for the troubled OPML site they started together and that Dave had ported to another LAMP-based server.

    Jealousy isn’t what grinds in my craw. It’s something else. It’s closer to disgust.

    But, I still read the old codger every single day to see if he changes learns to play well with others.
    He so desparately wants to be loved but keeps making it difficult for his treatment of others.

    Betsy is NOT going to like this. But Betsy seems to be a lot more tolerant than I am.

    Hmmm… it looks like a may get away with some Winer Whining without Betsy complaining about me being the playground bully.

    But it’s early yet.

    There’s probably a good correlation between NOT being a playground bully and being an active blogger (if anonymous).

    I’m anonymous for partially the reasons that John Edward’s recently roasted staff “bloggers” should have been. If you have any aspirations to a public life (political or activist) then these casual rants can be used to fuck with your civil rights.

    Does anyone stilll have any civil rights or did they just get “exec’ed” away in the last 7 years?

    The wonderful think about facism is that there’s no need for debate. You are told what to think.
