In defense of the blogroll, and welcome to Gretchen Suzanne!

by Frank Paynter on September 25, 2007

I was clicking through my blogroll, looking for clues from some of the bright and talented writers who appear there when I ran into a security authentication roadblock at Steve Himmer’s Tawny Grammar (formerly One Pot Meal). Damn, I thought. Steve has joined the ranks of those seeking a little more privacy in his web publishing efforts. I sent him a message to inquire, and he responded that he had left the house in a hurry this weekend and must have left his blog locked.

As it happens, Sage gave birth to Gretchen Suzanne this weekend, so if Steve was a little distracted, well — understandable.

Also Paul Ford has been writing in Ftrain recently, AND he got married this month.

Helga has a new essay up, finally. She didn’t marry though, nor (one assumes) did she give birth.

Madison’s morning daily paper, the Wisconsin State Journal has been selected as a finalist for an Online Journalism Award, honoring excellence in digital journalism, by the Online News Association and the USC Annenberg School for Communication. The selected feature was last February’s production of HipHop 101.

The winners will be announced at the OJA Awards Banquet during the 8th annual national conference of the Online News Association, which will be held October 18 and 19 at the Sheraton Centre, Toronto.

The Republican Party today is so compromised and ineffectual that the only thing they left to bind their true believers together is the winding sheet of the stars and stripes. Almost 30% of Americans still profess to believe that [...]
