Cassandra Dixon

by Frank Paynter on April 6, 2006

My friend Cassandra Dixon has taken another step along the path of living her convictions.   She leaves this month for Palestine as a member of the Christian Peacemaker Teams.  Since 1989, Cassandra has run Mary House, a Catholic Worker  volunteer facility which provides hospitality to people who come to visit relatives or friends at Oxford Prison.   Before that she ran Nukewatch, a progressive organization dedicated to nuclear truth telling in The Progressive Magazine’s struggle against government censorship.  Join me in holding Cassandra in the light of my love and concern as she continues her personal witness for peace as an active member of the CPT.

For the girl…

by Frank Paynter on April 6, 2006

I wonder if you recall the time we met online in a chat room, I think it was AOL, and I was all “Bruno Latour is the MAN!” and you were all, “Latour is just another Frenchman who has a hard time keeping the symbol and the referent straight.” and I was all “But what about Aramis?” and you were all “What about Athos and Porthos?” and I was all “Not THAT Aramis,” and you were all “Look through Iconoclash and get back to me.”

Well I read the book, and I am sorry that I missed the exhibition. I have just about decided to take up curling and give up on this intellectual stuff, but first I’d like to know… do you curl?
