Unfortunately, a week later I have to blog a contradictory statement from Terror Lekota:
“With sustained interoperatability with foreign forces such as Nato we are well positioned to respond to any unforeseen circumstances that may confront either ourselves or other regions,” he told the Cape Times.
Lekota was quite clear that a working relationship with Nato was desired, reported the Cape-based paper. “They have a partner of reliable capability because we are forging working relations here,” he said.
That’s in light of this past week’s exercises with a NATO flotilla which, as I point out, is the U.S. navy traveling incognito.
So politicians — especially cabinet ministers, have to be taken for what their word is worth. I reckon, hearkening back to an old post, Africom’s up and running and is based in South Africa. But nobody would ever come right out and say it…
