The dozens:

Maybe Tim O’Reilly can come up with a technology that would prevent that form of verbal abuse as well.
Civilized society demands it. I believe the “dozens” is riddled with a variety of threats and slurs that frankly I find reprehensible. It is after all the free speech of criminals… and should be treated accordingly. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean it should have associated costs?
Right? Someone has to pay for free speech that costs someone else… right?
Can’t we all just get along. I need to be alone for a bit. Work this out.

Always thought this talk to be the province of jr. high school kids, then they grew out of it when they realized there were more interesting words and activities in the world. I still tend to think that to be true. But, find McD’s link re the “dozens” puts a whole different perspective on the language. I still find name-calling not to my taste as the act can be so hurtful for so many people with such “fun” often getting out of hand, being misunderstood, just as a little push can become overly physical.
