The AT&T problem was at the fiber hut as I thought. The technician was knowledgeable and polite and took another hour and a half of my time after he arrived around 10am today. The name of the problem is “synch/no surf.” I hadn’t heard of that one. For a paranoid moment I thought the problem was “the radical lefty’s buffer is full and until we download it and send the transcription to the Star Chamber, let’s deny him access.” But then I reminded myself that I’m really not all that important and they’re really not that scary.
If AT&T had a mechanism for escalating calls from informed users, they could improve the service they offer.
The weekend outage prevented me from a timely acknowledgment of Millie Garfield’s 82nd birthday. I did get back in time to read of Ronni Bennett’s Gnomedex wrap-up. The best part about it is that she doesn’t mention the shenanigans of the coterie of self-important schlubs who tried desperately to saturate the public perception of the event with their own depressed perspectives. I hope I can attend next year!
Regarding the rain… ain’t no big thing. I understand that there has been a great deal of flood damage, but to the best of my knowledge, nobody’s been hurt and those who built houses in the flood plains are reminded again why it’s a bad idea to do that. My town — Oregon, WI — is now considering how to address the problem, and one option is to tear down everything that’s built where it might get swept away. All in all, the great flood of 2007 was just a broadcast media event pulling attention away from the tropics where folks really need our concern. Still, we got six inches, and that ain’t bragging.
Hey! Ronni says that Robert Steele’s keynote at Gnomedex was better than that brainless twit behind the video camera thought it was. Here’s a coupla lynx…
