My friend Cassandra Dixon has taken another step along the path of living her convictions.   She leaves this month for Palestine as a member of the Christian Peacemaker Teams.  Since 1989, Cassandra has run Mary House, a Catholic Worker  volunteer facility which provides hospitality to people who come to visit relatives or friends at Oxford Prison.   Before that she ran Nukewatch, a progressive organization dedicated to nuclear truth telling in The Progressive Magazine’s struggle against government censorship.  Join me in holding Cassandra in the light of my love and concern as she continues her personal witness for peace as an active member of the CPT.

I spent time with her in an Omaha, Nebraska jail. I will always remember her strength being the only woman incarcerated on that day with four men, Dec. 28, 1983. We sang “Ring around the Rosie” as we crossed the line for peace at Offit Airforce Base. What an activist for peace, a mother and friend. Congratulations from Taiwan. November 12, 2024.
