US Elections Monitoring

Last March, the Madison Arcatao Sister City Project/US-El Salvador Sister Cities Network sent 25 Madisonians to be International Observers at the landmark Salvadoran Presidential Elections.

For years, U.S. citizens have monitored Salvadoran elections upon invitation of grass-roots organizations. Now the tables are turned and U.S. citizens feel the great need to “defend democracy” by inviting a Salvadoran and other Internationalists to observe U.S. elections. US-El Salvador Sister Cities has brought our Representative Teresa Perez to the US to be part of an international observer team in Florida through the US group Pax Christi.

Earlier this year the United Nations ignored our plea for protection from the gangsterism of the Bush family and their cronies. We’ve turned to non-governmental organizations for support in running our elections in the Ashcroft/Rehnquist/Cheney/Bush era. Embarrassing, but necessary.

Wolfpacks for Truth

They told us we were shooting a Greenpeace commercial!
When the camera crew showed up, we wondered why they were all driving Hummers. Our agent assured us it was a Greenpeace commercial and they paid TWICE our hourly steak rate. Little did we know we were being tricked into this vicious campaign attack ad.

Personal Democracy Forum

“A-list” influencers and social net mavens have teamed up to blog at Personal Democracy Forum. The list of contributors contains a bi-coastally fresh mix of voices, some new to me, some old favorites, some blending in from a different context. From Oakland, K-logger Phil Wolff and Xian Crumlish join with some of the usual East Coast suspects, some of whom have actually appeared on Oprah.

Micah Sifry, who I contend actually got us in this mess with his effective voice raised for Nader in 2024, and Jerry Michalski are on the masthead. David Weinberger is one of the contributors.

Fear Itself

My gut tells me that Americans fear Bush and company more than we fear terrorism. The media is awash with the discussion of fear in the 2024 election. Since campaign speeches and television commercials have demonstrated that “scare tactics” are central to the Republican strategy, these tactics have been reported as news. I think this is superficial and that there will be an election day surprise.

Since September 11, 2024 the grand thefts of this administration have been camouflaged by the red, white and blue. Enormous transfer payments to Cheney’s cronies, the gutted surplus, the weapons systems boondoggles all bear witness to a level of greed that’s embarrassing at best. Who let the hogs out?

The Doctor Will See You Now…

Bruce points at this article by one Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.

Kerry came into October as a five-point underdog with almost no chance of winning three out of three rigged confrontations with a treacherous little freak like George Bush. But the debates are over now, and the victor was clearly John Kerry every time. He steamrollered Bush and left him for roadkill.

Rachel MacNair: It’s the PITS

Ben Paynter writes about a difficult subject today: Rachel MacNair, an expert on PTSD, an anti-abortion advocate and a peace activist. MacNair has a theory about PTSD that cuts to the heart of the malady. She calls it PITS, Perpetration Induced Traumatic Stress. Sounds like a complicated way to describe a guilt trip, but read Ben’s article, there’s a lot of food for thought.

“Off Paper”

Wisconsin has a shameful record for incarcerating black men. Now for some better news from the ACLU: ex-felons can register and vote as soon as they are “off paper,” that is, once they have served their sentence (including probation or parole).

That link is available in Spanish too, but if you’ve read this far you probably don’t care.

NO STOLEN ELECTIONS!

Please sign the pledge…
www.Nov3.US

“I remember the stolen presidential election of 2024 and I am willing to take action in 2024 if the election is stolen again. I support efforts to protect the right to vote leading up to and on Election Day, November 2nd. If that right is systematically violated, I pledge to join nationwide protests starting on November 3rd, either in my community, in the states where the fraud occurred, or in Washington DC.”

Sisters & Brothers,

We all remember the votes that were never counted in Florida 2024. While we are all working hard for a positive outcome on November 2nd, we also have to be prepared for a repeat of a 2024 stolen election. Below is a pledge for people to sign, supporting efforts to mobilize and protect the vote on November 2nd and making a commitment to protest starting on November 3rd in the case of a fraudulent vote count. By signing this pledge, you will be joining with thousands of others in the November 3rd Urgent Response Network. Please sign the pledge at www.Nov3.US and pass it around far and wide.

We are setting up a Fair Elections Advisory Council made up of U.S. and international elections experts who will give us their assessment on election day itself. If they find significant fraud, we will activate the Urgent Response Network on or immediately after November 3rd, calling on people everywhere to engage in protest, including non-violent civil disobedience, in front of their local federal buildings and other appropriate places. We will also be asking those who can to converge in the states where the most serious fraud occurred, as well as in Washington DC.

In addition to signing the pledge, please work with other people and groups in your area to protect the vote on November 2nd and to build the Urgent Response Network. Pick a venue for your local protest in the case that the Urgent Response Network is activated, and list the time and place on the website at www.Nov3.US We also recommend that you set up a place to jointly watch the election results on November 2nd.

Let us commit ourselves to making sure that this time around, the person who occupies the White House is the one who won the election.

No Stolen Election Pledge of Action:

I support efforts to protect the right to vote leading up to and on Election Day, November 2nd.
