Sandusky to Syracuse and Beyond…

dinoque2

Madison to Cape Cod… four days… clam plate last night at the Captain Kidd. With the bellies. Clams are now available at market price, just like lobstah, and last night at the Kidd, the lobster was less expensive. Yikes. We paused Monday in Syracuse for Beth to take a trip down memory lane, visiting her old home and schools and scoping out the neighborhoods she lived in in the fifties when her dad taught at SUNY Med School in Syracuse. The day before we had driven from Port Clinton, Ohio into Sandusky and then on to Niagara Falls. Somehow I was caught napping as we passed by Ashtabula.

In Syracuse, the Dinosaur Barbeque was closed for Labor Day.

Yesterday in Bennington I got a haircut at a barber shop that had a barber pole and ate lunch at Izabel’s Eatery, a hippie-capitalist-organic-adventure in modestly priced nouvelle, and a member of the Vermont Fresh Network. I had the “Redwood Cobb Salad” though we were a long way from the Pacific Northwest. The chef had a light hand with the goat cheese and the hickory smoked bacon was deelish.

How close it is to Vermont.

Photo Prize… best cat picture

This photo, found at Madame Levy’s “Reading Cow,” combines all of the elements comprising the category… it is a cat picture taken in France, and the kitty is eating! Delicious!

(While at M. Levy’s bazaar, you might want to score some LV.)

Norske Nook

I can’t pass Rice Lake without stopping at the Norske Nook for some lefse, or sometimes some coffee and pie.

In the men’s room there are two urinals. One is mounted higher than the other. One is labeled “Swedes.” One is labeled for “Norwegians.” For 5 points and a chance to advance to the bonus round, which is which, and why?

Renee Heads West…

Leaving Boston, Renee Blodgett writes…

First stop is Montreal, through Canada, Michigan, Wisconsin and into Minneapolis. From there, I drop off Friend #1 - Benny, who will head back to London and pick up Friend #2 Paul who comes in from Dallas for the second leg. The second leg starts off in Minneapolis, crosses South Dakota, the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, and into Idaho (Yellowstone and Teton Mountains). We then head up through Montana and to C’oeur D’Alene for some waterskiing and hiking. I then head west to Spokane Washington and Portland. I drop off Paul and in comes David from Germany via Boston, who will finish up the rest of the journey with me - Portland to Eugene, then down the Oregon coast and into California.

Think of me out there - Beverly Hillbilly style..the monster Sears cargo container on the roof, tennis rackets and golf clubs out the windows and camping gear and champagne in the trunk :-) singing to “kitch” 70s and 80s tunes and eating South African biltong :-)

WWJE?

RageBoy asks: “What Would Jesus Eat? I always thought he was sorta like Mikey. you know, that he’d eat *anything*! but well… I guess not, according to this.

I said to RB, “Eating well, feeling great, and living longer…” Jesus was dead 25 years by the time he got to my age. Guess I’ll stick with the big macs and fries. Mikey likes it!

So RB, he sez to me, “Yeah, that was my take, precisely. if Jesus was a bit more concerned about his own longevity, we’d all be bowing to Mecca and Dubya would be ranching camels in TX. the same author has a book on “the Bible approach” to clamidia (sp?). these fucking people! how about the Bible approach to single-digit IQ?

Well, I had to look that up, and while I couldn’t tell if Dr. Don addresses yeast infections, I did see that he is willing to share the bible cure for PMS, so all in all he is a great human bean, even if he does kinda remind me of Donny Osmond.

I noticed that another good question would be what will RageBoy eat now that the kitty food is gone. Maybe you wanta drop a bag of Tabby Treat in his tip jar over there.

“Fin de sickle & hammer”

RB takes up cat blogging, viz…

I’ve been feeding her all my stash of tuna fish, which as of tonight is totally depleted (will she stay? does fish matter?) and some Black Forest ham, milk, and the occasional splash of half and half. Cat seemed famished and skinny, but quite affectionate and playful, though now I think she’s a little wary of me because I have played some tricks on her. Tonight it was the old shoelace-is-a-snake routine, they always go nuts for that one. But she knew I was making the snake crawl away and after a while I could tell she knew I was fucking with her head and she went out for a couple hours.
