Saw "Walk the Line" tonight with Beth. What a great date movie. Chewing gum, listening to the music. Looking at each other and smiling, moving shoulders in time to the music, jumping around a little in the big cineplex seats.
Reese Witherspoon does a great June Carter. Joaquin Phoenix does a good Johnny Cash. Poignant. Dead brothers…
I have loved Witherspoon since "Legally Blonde." She owns her scenes. If "Walk the Line" doesn’t score academy awards including one for RW well… that would destroy my faith in Oscar.
Made me think about recovery a little. The wreckage, empathizing with the schmuck writhing on the bed, needing just a little handful of zips to get straight, what a mess.
Have you ever felt like that, those moments when you just want to kick the drummer into double time because everything is way too slow, even the collapse? Then some be-atch flushes the stash and the only thing that works is to go on a run to find more, because what is her problem anyway?
Great movie. Maybe a little gritty. Good music. Might make you get out some of the old country tunes that you haven’t listened to in a while.
Or some Bob Dylan.
