My deepest condolences Frank. I’ve only had to do that once and it was one of the most painful things I’ve ever had to deal with. Best thoughts.

We expect our children to outlive us, and everyone knows it’s a tragedy when they don’t. But in many ways we incorporate our pets into our lives as intimately as if they were our children, even though we expect that they *will* die before us. What’s that saying?, “Decay is inherent in compounded things”? The human-animal connection is a compounded thing, too, and when the animal dies, it’s like a piece of yourself falling off. You see all the bits and pieces you’re made of, and it takes a while to reconnect them over that missing piece. Best wishes.
