Minnie Pearl and the Playas

Saw some playas in the hotel in nashville.  Their flat brimmed Kangol ball caps worn with the brim at about 30 degrees off center still had the tags and stickers on them.  Minnie Pearl used to do that.  My mom said Minnie wanted to show you that the hat was new.  I’m guessing that was the statement these playas were making too.

Or maybe it’s just a Nashville thing.

onomatopoedia

You wouldn’t think there would be as many as five google hits on a word like onomatopoedia.

Cinco de Mayo

No offense, but have the Spanish named a month after a condiment?

Is that your age or your IQ?

Oh my goodness gracious sakes alive… I mean good golly…

I didn’t know we had ranks in the technology sector.  I take a perverse pride in my honorable discharge as an E-1 from the US Marine Corps.  At that time E-1 was as low as you could go and still wear buttons on your blouse.  I mean, there was always the Branded alternative… they could cut the buttons off.  But for low rank, E-1 was it.  So when I read this at the Red Couch because that mercenary bastard Hugh MacLeod linked there, I was dumb-founded.  "How do I climb this ladder?" I wondered.  Well, naturally I signed up for a few more conferences and resumed my research on google-ads.

Schwartz, as far as we know, is the highest ranking blogger by title in
the technology sector. It’s central to what he does and how he
communicates. He told us, “ It’s a community of communities. I recently
had breakfast with Dave Winer. What do we have in common? We both blog.”

Gnomedex 5

A complicated man to say the least, Dave Winer has been going on about how people are saying they won’t be at Gnomedex because he has been invited to speak.  Lest my absence be noted and attributed to Winer aversion, I want to say that we have a cutover scheduled in June and I can’t be out of town.   I was  really really really thinking about going to this Gnomedex because I had great fun at the other one I attended!

At Gnomedex 2 in Des Moines I met the good Doc Searls, as well as several other great people like Chris Pirillo, George Partington, Ev Williams, Gretchen …lots of others.

My friend JR will be there this year. So will Denise.  It looks like a great event is shaping up!

What I like about Gnomedex is the festive atmosphere.  This is a conference built around pop-tech and fun.  I’d say that that the presence of one colorful and controversial, - yes, sometimes antagonistic - personality is no good reason to stay home!  Go if you can.  Enjoy it.  The legend of Gnomedex continues.  I want to dee this grow from the pleasant little Des Moines gathering to the Comdex of 2024.  Only you can make it happen!  Think about it… Gnomies in Vegas.  I think it’s a dream worth realizing, now that the Des Moines daze are behind us forever.

Physicians of the Year

Diplomate mill?

…But to receive the award in person at a special two-day workshop in
Washington last month, Mueller found out that he would have to make a
$1,250 contribution to the National Republican Congressional Committee.

The Republicans, under the direction of DeLay, came up with the idea
for the awards five years ago as a means of helping to raise funds for
the congressional campaign efforts for their party.

A Republican spokesman said there were thousands of doctors around the
country content with their Physicians of the Year awards, and that
there was nothing about the program to apologize for.
