Amanda and ze Frank remind me of Josh and Donna.   First they go on like that for years and years, all that tension and everything, then she gets a great job in advertising, and he still does the same old creative stuff, but in the end where do they end up?  On some beach.  Naked.

Dave Winer wishes they wouldn’t cancel the West Wing.  I think if we did the Peter Pan “do you believe in fairies” thing we could restore the show’s light.  Do you believe?  Well do ya punk, do ya believe in fairies?  Hunh? Do ya? Do ya?  And speaking of fun couples, well there’s me and Richard Bennett, slow dancing, and I blame that all on Doc; but, also in family court today, there came a final parting of the ways.  Control/Alt/Delete dudes.

And Happy 51 Dave!  They named a highway after your age.

    Rogers Cadenhead remains a mensch.

He did the right thing, surfacing his issues with the OPML project in public.

    Yes, he certainly did.

Some people think I’m an asshat for taking this public, and I won’t argue with that, but I don’t have the resources to fight an intellectual property lawsuit against a millionaire. Winer knows this — he’s been a guest in my home — and it’s clear his attorney was acting from the same assumption throughout the settlement negotiation.

I expect you take that at least as seriously as I do, Frank.

My early days blogging I found myself in the middle of a lighthearted ad hominem meme propagation. The hominem we were adding was DW. There’s a lot to say about that, about how I felt about myself when I saw that I was being hurtful, about how the subject of the rude abuse himself was hurt, and about how he makes his way in this world. There’s a comment at Rogers’ by the ace commentarian McD giving him all the credit he deserves for all that he contributed to that collaboration over the years. Regarding Dave, I just don’t want to go there. He suffers enough. But yes, I take it very seriously when I see someone bullying somebody else, and when I see hospitality and friendship abused.

I also have an aversion to the whole adversarial system we call our justice system. Civil lawsuits of the type described here are no more than assault. It’s sort of a trial by combat in which the opponents are called to throw dollar bills at each other until someone suffocates under the weight of all that cash. At that time the attorneys come in, pick up the paper and the survivor leaves the field victorious.

That’s perfect, Frank. That’s it precisely.

Rogers found a nifty endrun around the usual process. Re the old Dave Winer is an asshat meme (or whichever it was), there’s no crying in a payback as long as it’s commensurate with the offense(s). He too often goes too far and never feels a lick of remorse. Dave’s ego is too weak to bench press Contrition even once. He cannot manage it. I draw the fault/responsibility line there.

You an McD…is there such a thing as being too kind? Do you let delicate artiste/tortured soul get away with bullshit just because you get (even if s/he doesn’t) where it all comes from?

Feh. I’ve wasted breath enough already.

I love the phrase “Dave’s ego is too weak to bench press Contrition.”

Frank’s kindness is the wisdom of a man who tries not to burn bridges without need. I don’t know McD, but I assume the same.

Hm. Wisdom. yes. I note that slot is empty on my super-duper utility belt. my wife slaps my hand whenever i try to sneak some of hers (she’s got so much!). i made the mistake of storing mines in a cool, dark place, away from the light. had to fight thru cobwebs and bats last time i tried to rush for it…

now lookit, i’ve strayed too far.
