War on Journalism - Up Front with Bill Mauldin…

I just walked out on Ed Markey. I hope you would have too. His speech was self congratulatory and dull. He’s on our side, I guess, but he made me want to puke. I was much more inspired last night by Dennis Kucinich’s surprise appearance. At least there was a tall redhead with him… his wife, I think, or maybe his niece. Markey was all alone out there with his ego. Don’t misunderstand me… I believe that we the people of the United States of America need gentlemen like Ed Markey carrying the Progressive banner, we need men with his experience and political skill. But we don’t have to sit and listen to them when they are blowing smoke up our collective USian butts. Us and them, us and them… Markey’s one of us, deriving his power from the people, not the corporations. He’s the bull goose of the House Telecom Committee in the Democratic congress. But… but… well, let’s just say he’s no Maurice Hinchey.

(I think maybe Ed should let that pelt go gray and then silver it up a bit like Maurice. Yeah. That’s the ticket.)

Professor McChesney earlier in the evening remarked on the paradox that the media reform movement is non-partisan, but it’s a “progressive” movement. And the progressive dems have been here like flies on dung. So here we are, grass roots activists, trying to restore some sanity and rip up the tracks in front of the corporate train, allied with lifetime career politicians. Is it impolite of me to notice this?
