They are blue cities.......It's time to state something that we've felt for a long time but have been too polite to say out loud: Liberals, progressives, and Democrats do not live in a country that stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific, from Canada to Mexico. We live on a chain of islands. We are citizens of the Urban Archipelago....." If that is, indeed the case, then what the Democrats need to do is "embracing the reality that urban life and urban values are the only sustainable response to the modern age of holy war, environmental degradation, and global conflict." And, in terms of being of an "urban" mindset, you don't have to be there to be there. …seems to me that the map really looks like the one that reflects an urban archipelago (http://www.urbanarchipelago.com/), which shows that “The majority of the blue states–Washington, Oregon, California, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware–are, geographically speaking, not blue states. We haven't had a real liberal running for president for a long time. Clinton was no liberal. Kerry was a centrist at best. Only a real liberal can position the country to make the hard choices of life over death, education over ignorance, public health over private privilege, equal opportunity over oligarchic elitism. I'm tired of single sided elections where it makes little difference who wins. In this case of course it did make a difference since a Democrat would be less likely to let personal liberties erode as quickly as the power-elitist who grabbed the office. The fact that you don't undertand that probably indicates that you are at heart a Dumbfuckistani, regardless of your place of residence. I don’t agree Josh. But he need not worry -- Dumbfuckistan is too big a word for most of the denizens of that area. And since that word is not to be found in the bibles they thump, it is of no mind to them, anyway. And if it were to be worthy of concern, the Dumbfuckistanis know that King Dubya would have people like Frank (and me, and you if you were here) sent to a fine vacation in a place just this side of Cuba . . .
