Stu they are referring to the Eliot poem, “The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock”.

I think it is a feminist who wants to wear purple( may be one of ours an Aussie but I don’t think so) - the line is
“when I am an old woman I shall wear purple”

The key to differentiating and remembering the Prufrock line is the rhyme - old and rolled.

When I was 15, Prufrock got me a place in a semi pro theatre company and a boatload of profesional training. I owe Eliot.

The best section is

I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think that they will sing to me.

I have seen them riding seaward on the waves

Combing the white hair of the waves blown back

When the wind blows the water white and black.

I saw that on a beach in Dingle, magnificent.
